You might be surprised what is considered rural. According to USDA Home Loan Property Guidelines the property must be in an area designated as "rural" by RHS. "Rural" designated areas may include small towns and cities, or the outskirts of some larger areas. These areas are typically more suburban than they are rural.
To see whether a property is eligible for financing under the USDA Rural Home Loan I have provided maps below for Washington State for you to print out and take with you.
If the county you are looking for is not listed than all areas in that county are eligible.

Thanks Paul - Before USDA had the eligibility website the maps were all we had to use.
